The words we use, and what each one counts
Networking has its own vocabulary, and every product bends it a little. Here is exactly what each word means in NetworkingBadger, including the one that decides your bill.
Organisation
Everything you run, under one name. It holds your groups, your members, your team and your licence. A person joins an organisation, through one of its groups.
Group
One meeting community, usually a town, a day or a format, with its own venue, meeting pattern and members. Groups are unlimited and the price never depends on how many you run. Some organisations call these chapters.
Region
A set of groups looked after together, with its own region managers. Useful once a network is large enough that nobody sensibly watches every group.
Active member
Somebody holding an active membership, counted once however many of your groups they belong to. This is what the licence is priced on. Visitors, people invited who have not joined, and lapsed members do not count.
Invited member
Somebody an organiser has added who has not yet accepted their invitation. They have an invitation link but no password, they cannot see anything yet, and they are not charged for.
Lapsed member
A member whose membership has run out and has not been renewed. They keep their history, so if they come back nothing is lost, and they stop counting towards your licence.
Visitor
A guest coming to a meeting, whether a member invited them or they registered themselves from a shared link. A visitor is not a member and never counts towards what you pay.
Inviter credit
The record of which member brought somebody in. It is set once, when the visitor first appears, and it survives however long they take to join, so the member who did the work still gets the credit months later.
Referral
One member passing another member a piece of business. Members log them in seconds, with the value when it is known, so a group can see what its membership is actually worth.
One to one
Two members meeting outside the group to get to know each other’s business. Logged the same way as a referral, because groups that do them well tend to keep their members.
Introduction
A member asking to be put in touch with another member. Contact details are only ever handed over when both people have agreed, which is why the directory never shows an email address or a phone number.
Help request
A member asking the group for something they need, so the room can answer rather than the organiser having to guess who to ask.
Renewal
The date a member membership is next due. Members can be monthly, quarterly or annual, side by side in the same group, and reminders go out before each one falls due.
Membership plan
What you charge your own members, and how often. It belongs to you: we record it and remind people, and we never collect it or take a share of it.
Licence
What you pay us. One licence for the whole organisation, priced on active members, with every feature and every group included. See the pricing page for the figures.
Member app
The app your members use, in your name, logo and colours, at your own web address. It works in a browser and can be added to a phone home screen, under an icon and name you design, with nothing to download.
Waiting list
What happens when a meeting is full. A place that frees up goes to whoever is next, by email, without an organiser having to notice.
Organiser
Anybody who helps run the organisation: owner, admin, region manager or group manager. Organisers are never charged for, only members.
If we use a word somewhere that is not here, tell us and we will either define it or stop using it. Contact us.
